FAVELA are the Brazilian equivalent of shanty towns which are generally found on the edge of the city. These are basically mini-cities within a city and have a law and a ‘jenga’ (a spiritual vibe) unto themselves. Nicholas uses bitchumen and gold leaf to demonstrate the many contrasts of Favela life. Experiencing Favelas first-hand has helped to shape him into the painter he is today.
